Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

The Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), Government of India, has initiated the ambitious Deep Ocean Mission (DOM) with six major technical components (Verticals 1-6) to study the deep ocean and sustainably harness the living and non-living resources of the Indian Ocean using advanced technologies. The sixth vertical (V6) of DOM is primarily focused on the establishment of an "Advanced Marine Station for Ocean Biology (AMSOB)" with world-class, state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities to carry out advanced, cutting-edge research and build human capacity in the field of Ocean Biology in India. The National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), under the DOM V6 "Advanced Research Station for Ocean Biology," invites research proposals for the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from bright young researchers through reputed research institutions and universities having suitable basic infrastructure and expertise in biological research in the following thrust areas:

  • Foster cutting-edge research in ocean biology.
  • Identify and nurture talented researchers and building human capacity.
  • Support advanced interdisciplinary research in Ocean Biology.
  • Strengthen MoES-AMSOBs leadership in Ocean exploration and technology.

  • Cell and Developmental Biology of Marine Organisms.
  • Physiological, Neurological, and Behavioural Biology of Marine Organisms.
  • Biochemistry of Marine Organisms and Marine Microbiology.
  • Computational and Systems Biology of Marine Organisms.
  • Marine Biotechnology.
  • Marine Biodiversity, Taxonomy, and Ecology.
  • Climate Change Impacts and Evolutionary Ecology of Marine Organisms.
